Academic Success CenterBiography
Shaina is the supervisor for the Supplemental Instruction Program and helps run the outreach efforts for the Academic Success Center. The mission the ASC is to empower students to become independent learners by instilling evidenced based learning strategies and study skills in the individual and/or group sessions led a trained peer. Shaina believes that academic and study skills are not only a fundamental part of academic excellence, but are also the building blocks of how to succeed in college and beyond.
Prior to joining WSU, Shaina worked at the Univeristy of Michigan Ann Arbor & Dearborn as an Admissions Counselor, and at Michigan State University in their Peer Assisted Learner (PAL) program. She also has taught first year success courses, completed and presented on research about first generation student success, and helped build initiatives with the Provosts office for first generation students at MSU.
Shaina holds a BA in Sociology & Community Action Social Change (Social Work) from the Univeristy of Michigan Ann Arbor and a Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration with a certification in Teaching and Learning in Postsecondary Education from Michigan State University.
