Academic Persistence  (/akəˈdemik/  /pərˈsistəns/) 

Definition: The ability of a student to continue enrollment at a higher education institution despite academic hardships

At some point during the academic journey, students find themselves experiencing academic difficulties. They may perform poorly on a test, display poor study habits, or procrastinate on completing assignments. Study skills coaching is available through the Learning Support Programs in the Academic Success Center to assist students with strategies and techniques to overcome these hardships. When these academic behaviors persist, students find themselves failing and/or repeating courses, entering academic probation, being dismissed from the university, or applying for readmission after exclusion. The Academic Persistence Program was developed to help students in get back on track and stay on track with their academic goals.

You can expect the following when working with an Academic Persistence Specialist:

• Personalized guidance - helping students develop effective study habits, time management skills, and a strong sense of self-efficacy.
• Help students identify and overcome obstacles—whether academic, personal, or financial—that could impact their ability to continue their studies.
• Connect students with resources across campus, including tutoring, advising, and financial aid services.
